MS Dhoni Addresses Retirement Speculations: 'The Body Will Decide'
Speculation Over Dhoni's Retirement
With the 2025 Indian Premier League season underway, rumblings over whether MS Dhoni will retire are growing louder. The legendary retired India captain who only plays in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has found himself under examination because of how he bats and his fitness level.
Unusual Batting Locations Spark Concerns
In a recent game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dhoni was surprisingly sent to bat at number nine in a tricky run chase, with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin being shuffled up ahead of him. This move has left everyone in suspense and has fueled speculation regarding his place in the team. Later, in a match against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni took the field in the 11th over when CSK was struggling at 74/5 while chasing 184. Though he remained not out with 30 runs off 26 balls, he could not take the team to success.
Dhoni Responds to Retirement Speculations
Dhoni spoke candidly during a pre-recorded podcast with Raj Shamani about the impending rumors; he confirmed his commitment to this particular season and gave a very realistic view regarding his future in the game of cricket.
"Not right now (about retirement). I'm still playing IPL, and I've kept it very simple; I take it one year at a time," Dhoni mentioned.
He further elaborated on his decision-making process:
"I'm 43; by the time this finishes in July, I'll be 44. I have a full 10 months to decide on playing one more year. It is not me who decides; it is the body that decides whether you can play. One year at a time, 100 percent directed towards what has to be done now. After that, we will see, after maybe 8 or 10 months."
CDK's Tough Beginning in IPL 2025
CSK have begun the 2025 season with a very rocky start: only one win from their opening four games. A victory came in the first match against the Mumbai Indians, where CSK triumphed by four wickets. Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team hopes to regain lost momentum in the upcoming matches.
Up Next: CSK vs. Punjab Kings
On April 8, CSK will travel to play the Punjab Kings, who are riding high. The Super Kings would have a chance to improve their situation and move up the standings.
