Former Pakistan Cricketer Sparks Controversy with IPL Match-Fixing Remarks Amid Rajasthan Royals Allegations
The match-fixing controversy involving the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 has taken a new turn with former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed making sweeping allegations about corruption in the league. Following accusations by Jaydeep Bihani, the convener of the Rajasthan Cricket Association's (RCA) ad-hoc committee, Ahmed claimed that match-fixing is widespread across IPL teams.
Tanvir, who played eight international matches for Pakistan, stated that while the IPL is the biggest cricket league globally, it also sees the highest instances of match-fixing, alleging that many teams are "controlled by fixers." His comments, shared on social platform X, sparked immediate backlash from fans online, with many dismissing his views and mocking his cricketing credentials.
One user wrote, “Show us where BCCI made such a claim. You’re just a clown who played a handful of Tests.” Others called on the BCCI to take formal action against him, labeling the remarks as damaging and unfounded.
The controversy began after Rajasthan Royals suffered two close defeats, prompting Bihani to accuse the team of match-fixing—an allegation the franchise has firmly denied.
The Ticket Dispute Behind the Allegations?
A report by The Times of India suggested that a ticket allocation dispute might be at the root of the RCA’s allegations. Historically, the RCA received around 1,800 tickets per IPL match, but that number has reportedly been reduced to 1,000–1,200 in 2025.
An insider from the Royals camp told the publication:
“Members of the RCA’s ad-hoc committee were demanding an excessive number of tickets, which we declined. That’s the real reason behind this entire controversy.”
RR’s Performance So Far
As of now, Rajasthan Royals have won just 2 of their first 8 matches in the ongoing IPL season, which has added fuel to the fire in terms of criticism and speculation.
What’s Next?
While the allegations remain unproven, they highlight the sensitive nature of corruption claims in cricket, especially in a high-stakes tournament like the IPL. The BCCI and IPL’s Anti-Corruption Unit have not yet made any official announcements regarding investigations.
As always, fans are advised to avoid jumping to conclusions until verified facts emerge.
