CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan Urges Calm Despite Poor IPL 2025 Start: “We Don’t Press the Panic Button”

Despite a tough run in the IPL 2025 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) remain composed, with CEO Kasi Viswanathan emphasizing that the franchise is not panicking amid their struggles. CSK has lost six out of their first eight matches, including a five-game losing streak, placing the five-time champions at the bottom of the points table as the tournament crosses its halfway mark.

Speaking to PTI, Viswanathan acknowledged the team’s underwhelming performance but reaffirmed CSK’s philosophy of remaining level-headed under pressure.

"We haven’t performed to expectations, but we’re focused on improvement. Our franchise has never been one to hit the panic button — it’s just a game," he stated.

Injuries & Batting Concerns

One of the major setbacks for CSK this season has been the absence of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is sidelined due to injury. The team has also struggled with a lack of consistency in their batting lineup, which has contributed to their string of defeats.

In Gaikwad’s absence, MS Dhoni has stepped in as captain, but as head coach Stephen Fleming pointed out, “Dhoni doesn’t have a magic wand” — a reminder that turnarounds take time and collective effort.

Must-Win Territory & Focus on 2026

With just six league matches left, CSK now finds itself in a must-win scenario to keep playoff hopes alive. Interestingly, Dhoni has already started discussing planning for the 2026 season, indicating a long-term mindset even amid short-term challenges.

When asked whether Dhoni’s return as captain might turn things around, Viswanathan said the focus is not on individuals but the team's overall performance.

"It’s not about one person. The entire team needs to perform. As administrators, we don’t interfere with team decisions — Dhoni knows what’s best for the squad," he added.
"We believe in backing our players and coaching staff. Criticism is not how we operate."

Looking Ahead

CSK's calm approach in the face of adversity reflects the franchise’s legacy of trust, stability, and resilience. While the odds may be stacked against them this season, they continue to fight on — with eyes on both redemption and rebuilding.
