The Mumbai Indians (MI) began their home segment of the IPL 2025 season with a convincing eight-wicket win over the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium. Not only was it MI's first win of the season, but it also put KKR at the very bottom of the IPL points table.

MI's Dominant Bowling Performance

MI's debutant fast bowler, Ashwani Kumar, was the star of the innings, finishing with figures of 4 wickets for 24 runs. In addition, Kumar's debut included a hat-trick, making him the first Indian player to achieve that milestone in an IPL debut. MI's Deepak Chahar also bowled well and finished with 2 wickets for 19 runs. KKR's Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored well with 26 runs, but MI managed to restrict KKR to a total of 116 runs in only 16.2 overs. 

Mumbai Indian's Clinical Chase

MI displayed a clinical chase of 117 runs. Ryan Rickelton stayed unbeaten on 62 off 41 balls, while MI chased down the target within 12.5 overs. Mumbai Indians' victory elevated them to sixth place on the points table and left KKR at the bottom.
