A power outage leaves fans disappointed as PBKS vs DC match gets cancelled midway
What Happened?
The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala ended abruptly on Thursday night after a floodlight failure. According to an official statement, the game had to be called off due to a “significant technical failure” at the stadium.
How It All Unfolded
The game began later than scheduled due to rain. Originally set to start at 7 PM IST, the toss finally took place at 8:15 PM, and play began at 8:30 PM without any overs being deducted.
PBKS chose to bat first and got off to a flying start. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh put up a powerful partnership, reaching a century stand quickly. Arya scored an impressive 70 runs off just 34 balls before being dismissed by T Natarajan.
However, the momentum came to a sudden halt. At around 9:29 PM IST, three of the floodlight towers failed due to a power outage in the area. The stadium went partially dark, and after an 11-minute wait, the game was officially called off.
What Did the Officials Say?
In an official statement, the BCCI expressed regret:
“Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees.”
What’s Next for PBKS?
Following the incident, Punjab Kings’ next match against Mumbai Indians (MI) has now been shifted from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad.
Fans Left Frustrated
The unexpected blackout not only disrupted an exciting match but also left thousands of fans in the stadium disappointed. With only 10.1 overs played, many were hoping to see a full game, especially after the thrilling start by PBKS.
Closing Thoughts
While weather delays are part of cricket, technical issues like this are rare and frustrating. Hopefully, the stadium authorities and organisers will work on preventing such mishaps in future matches.
